Food in Peru (Api and Pastel)

So, more about food in Peru… when we first crossed the border into Peru from Bolivia we were still on the altiplano – it is mostly in Bolivia, but it extends into Peru as it includes the Lake Titicaca area.

This was good, because one of our favourite things from Bolivia – ‘api and pastel‘ – originates from the altiplano area. We wasted no time in searching out api and pastel…. BUT of COURSE…. it was Peru.. so it wasn’t as good as in Bolivia…

On the altiplano itself, it was not TOO bad… but as soon as we left the altiplano area it became harder to find and also a bit rubbish – flavourless api, and cold pastel 🙁 🙁 Yes, we gave another FAIL to Peru…

We mourned the loss of our api and pastel, and so here is a tribute gallery of api and pastel in Peru…

Api and pastel in Puno – not too bad, but not up to Bolivian standards…
PB with api and pastel in ‘Api Due Due’ in Puno.
The outside of ‘Api due due’ – Puno.
This api and pastel in Puno was the only one that came up to Bolivian standards…. unfortunately we found it on our last day in Puno 🙁
Api and pastel in Arequipa – IT WAS TERRIBLE.. PB’s face says it all…
