Estamos en La Paz (de nuevo)
We’ve made it back to La Paz 🙂 It’s our penultimate visit to this awesome city on this trip…
BUT things have changed since we were here last…and not necessarily for the better 🙁 Our once awesome Adventure Brew hostal B and B has gone a bit downhill… AND the price has gone up as they now make you – as the guest – pay the booking.com fee :-(… BUT most shocking AND disappointing of all is the fact that craft beer NO LONGER features in the choice of free drink each evening… I’m not opposed to change – in fact I like change – BUT when there’s NO beer in a ‘brew hostal’ only rum or vodka with a tiny mixer?!?! It is nothing short of WRONG!!
In spite of accommodation setbacks, we soon cheered up as we liked being back in La Paz…
We were excited by all the sightseeing that lay ahead of us… especially all of the cable car lines that we planned to ride for awesome aerial views over the city… Cable car riding did NOT disappoint… so much so that you have a whole blog post about the Teleférico to look forward to 😉 BUT I can tell you that we rode the red line up to El Alto, as no trip to La Paz is complete without a stop in El Alto…
El Alto is at 4095m… and is home to a famous sprawling market which in all honesty seems to go on for miles and miles… The market sells everything you could possibly imagine – food, clothes, any household item you can possibly think of, animals… it even has an official ‘witches market’ section where you can consult a witch doctor and find a remedy for any problem/ailment you might have…
The views from El Alto are pretty awesome too, not only can you see out onto snowcapped peaks, but La Paz sits below you… It’s pretty stunning 🙂
When we weren’t in El Alto… or riding cable cars, we enjoyed strolling around La Paz.. we might have been there before BUT there was always something happening and something new to see… or maybe we were really seeing the same things BUT without altitude sickness 😉
Our penultimate visit to La Paz also gave us our first glimpse of the La Paz Zebras… No, not some famous Bolivian band or sports team, BUT part of an education program to help people cross the roads in La Paz!?! Made us smile anyway…
What can I say? Even without craft beer on tap in the hostal… we still loved La Paz 🙂 🙂 Who wouldn’t? It’s an AWESOME city 🙂 🙂
