Estamos en Puerto Varas
Puerto Varas – the land of volcanoes and awesome airbnb hosts – was an awesome place to be for a few days of rest and relaxation 🙂
Puerto Varas is located on Lake Llanquihue, and when the sun is shining you can see Osorno Volcano across the lake 🙂 Given our new found love of volcanoes… especially those with snow-caps – it was perfect for us… and PB soon grew to love his new catch phrase – ‘look, I can see a volcano’. 🙂
There was also a cute little beach on the lake, and although it was pretty warm, I’m pleased to report that we were law-abiding citizens (unlike a number of people in Puerto Varas) and did not swim in the lake…
There are also a couple of viewpoints in town – they are supposed to offer great views of Puerto Varas… but we weren’t very impressed with the views… but the cross at the top of one of the hills was okay… and we conceeded that 50 years ago or so, there might have been a view from the top before all the trees got too tall…
In Puerto Varas – like other places in this area – you can also see the German influence (Germans were encouraged to come and settle here). This comes primarily in the form of architecture, but also in the food and drink…
We liked Puerto Varas a lot… but to be honest, it was made even better by our accommodation and our airbnb hosts 🙂 Our little cabaña was in Any and Raúl’s garden, and they were always cheerful and friendly. They definitely come out on top off our ranking scale of ‘airbnb hosts who go above and beyond to keep their guests happy’… I mean, how could anyone not be satisfied with deliveries of fresh hot smoked salmon, which they had smoked themselves, and honey from the bees that they keep in their garden??! 🙂 🙂 🙂
The cabaña was also the perfect location for beer tasting… there seems to be a lot of craft beer brewed in the lakes area, and we throught it would be rude not to try the local specialities!?!?
All in all, we had a wonderful time in Puerto Varas, and we also did some excellent day trips… but more about that later…
