On the Ría Deseado
Addicted to looking for wildlife and birds – I mean how could anyone resist the opportunity to see the awesome Commerson’s dolphin for a second time??? – we took a second excursion with Darwin Tours…
After donning our lifejackets and boarding the boat, we headed out to find the bullet-like Commerson’s dolphins that we had seen in Playa Union… We were not disappointed with our sighting – they playfully followed the boat, darting in front, behind and under us. It was fun to watch – the photos are a different story! How anyone gets a good picture of this species of dolphin is beyond me…

After some time with the dolphins we moved on… it was time to get further into the estuary where a myriad of birds were waiting to be spotted 🙂 Here’s some of what we saw…

There was also a small number of sea lions lazing in the sun on a small island in the middle of the estuary.

Then it was time to land… no Darwin Tour would be complete without landing on an island with penguins!!! This time there were no rockhopper penguins – they’re don’t like to live in the estuary – but a nice welcoming colony of magellanic penguins is fine by me 🙂

One new bird spotted (the dolphin gull 🙂 ) – it was another awesome tour – thank you Darwin Tours! 🙂
