Estamos em São João del Rei e Tiradentes

After hearing that Tiradentes was ‘the jewel of the crown’, we thought we shouldn’t miss it, so we took a detour on our way to Rio… (our future Rio airbandb host, told us not to miss it on the way, as it was the ‘jewel of the crown’ (of what, I’m not sure…..))

Accommodation in Tiradentes was out of our league on a weekend so we ended up booking a couple of nights in São João del Rei instead – as it was close enough for us to make our pilgrimage day trip to ‘the jewel of the crown!’

Our day trip to Tiradentes, however, turned into a half day trip… it would have been shorter but there was a gap in the bus schedule to take us back to São João del Rei… Don’t get me wrong, it was a pleasant enough place, just very small with not that much to see to be honest…

A cobbled street in, small but quaint, Tiradentes
A different cobbled street in Tiradentes.

Back in São João del Rei we decided to go for a stroll to check out the historic centre, in order to try to answer for ourselves the question of what Tiradentes supposedly has that São João del Rei does not that puts it on the tourist trail!?!

We didn’t find an answer… we loved São João del Rei!!! Check out some pictures of the historic centre…

São João del Rei has cobbled streets too 🙂
and more cobbled streets with buildings with colourful windows and doors…
And an awesome square with a pretty cool looking church…

There was, however one thing that São João del Rei had that Tiradentes did not, which was available directly from our hotel……

White-eyed Parakeets 🙂

…and this made São João del Rei even better than Tiradentes in my eyes!!! 🙂 🙂
