Perito Moreno Glacier
Yes – it was time to visit the world-famous Perito Moreno Glacier…
A taxi driver told us once that the two most beautiful things in Argentina were Iguazu Falls and Perito Moreno Glacier.. and well, he may be right – it is a pretty AMAZING glacier. You can get there using a shuttle bus service which gives you around 5 and a half hours at the glacier. That might sound like a lot of time to look at a glacier – but it’s very BIG ๐ There are a fair few kilometres of trails/boardwalks and a lot of different viewing platforms, and it’s actually very easy to use up the time.
The glacier is advancing, rather than retreating – which is unusual for a glacier nowadays – andย in the afternoon (depending on the weather conditions), bits of the glacier start to lean and creak, and then fall off into the lake below – HOW COOL IS THAT? …VERY COOL, I am sure you will agree :-). Crowds of people gather on the viewing deck and stand there watching the glacier – eagerly waiting in anticipation for the next chunk of glacier to fall off – which is then greeted by howls of excitement from the audience! The glacier puts on a good show… ๐
What more can I say – except that it was an amazing place to visit, and our amateur pictures don’t really do it justice…. but of course I’m still going to put them on this blog ๐ ๐ ๐
